Martial arts for high school students

The Right Path for Washington County is partnering with Bigley Studio in Marietta and Wagner Studio in Beverly to offer a six-week martial arts training for area high school students. This is an opportunity to strengthen mind, spirit and body by building self esteem, setting goals and committing to a healthy lifestyle. This free training is provided by the Marietta Community Foundation. Washington County high school students interested in participating should call Cathy Harper at 374-6990.

Classes will begin in the next two weeks.

Small Business

Center workshop

The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Marietta will hold its next Basis of a Successful Start workshop from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Washington State Community College's Infinite Learning Center in the library building.

The first half of the workshop will provide potential business owners with information on how to get a business started. The second half of the workshop guides participants through the process of preparing a business plan, defining their target customer and identifying the competition. The workshop is free but registration is required. Registration is accepted until 4 p.m. the day before the event by calling Julie Wharton or Pamela Lankford at 373-5150 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or emailing anytime at sbdc@wscc.edu or jgraham@sbdcmarietta.org

Smoke detectors available in Devola

The Devola Volunteer Fire Company will be donating a limited number of smoke detectors to East Muskingum Township residents in need. The alarms are available due to a donation from the Hancock Charitable Fund, via the Marietta Community Foundation.

Stories, crafts, treats at Marietta library

Children ages 3 to 6 are invited to come to the Marietta Library for an hour of stories, crafts and treats at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 26 in the Marietta Library meeting room, 615 Fifth St.

Registration is required, by stopping by the Youth Services department or calling 373-1057, Ext. 219.
