Belpre youth honored

BELPRE - On Jan. 25, 10-year-old Spencer Motor Sports racecar driver Tyce Church of Belpre was at the Rising Star Resort and Casino, in Rising Sun, Ind., for the 2012 F.A.S.T. Midwest Series annual awards Banquet. The F.A.S.T. (Family Affordable Speed Tour) Series is host to a varity of classes for Legend and Bandolero racecars. For the 2012 race season, Church finished runner-up in the Bandolero Bandits (ages 8 to 11 year old drivers) division. Upon recieving his second-place trophy, Church gave a short speech, in which he thanked his crew, team, and sponsors for their support throughout the 2012 racing season.

Church's SMS 2012 sponsors included the Washington County Sheriff's Office "Click it or ticket" program, Auto Teck and Tire of Marietta, Advanced Auto Patrs of Murdock Avenue, Parkersburg, Forshey Marine Service, Marietta, and Geddings Machine Racing, Belpre.

Church stated the 2012 season was a lot of fun and a learning experience. He said he was excited about the coming 2013 season and is hoping for big things (finishes). Church's team owner (grandfather ) Dana Spencer was also very appreciative of their 2012 sponsors. He stated they hope to run for the F.A.S.T. Series Bandits Division championship and possibly a track championship at Lake Erie Speedway in North East, Pa. A key factor in accomplishing that goal will be funding.

"We're really looking and hoping for a primary and secondary sponsors for 2013," he said.

Spencer states that to provide visability for their sponsors, Church and the racecar appear in local car shows, parades, fairs,and events, promoting their sponsors and / or their products. They will even do personal appearances at sponsors business's or events.

"We have three confirmed associate sponsors for 2013 all ready (Auto Teck and Tire, Forshey Marine Service, and Straight Line Collision, Belpre)," he said. "We're working on more. "Regardless, we'll run Tyce and the car as often as funding permits."
