The Marietta Clown Club will be collecting donations for the Washington County Easter Seal Society. The collection site will be at the Frontier Shopping Center/McDonald's/YMCA area. The "road block" is an annual part of the Society's telethon effort.

For two weeks in January, Maj. Sharlotta Mylar, a Parkersburg resident, Marietta Memorial Hospital employee and major in the W.Va. National Guard, traveled to Honduras to work at an Army field hospital. Mylar was one of 700 members of the 1092nd battalion sent to Honduras to build roads.

100 years ago

The suggestion that a well be drilled in Marietta for the purposes of testing for "deep oil" will be discussed by the Board of Trade.

After hearing the testimony of several witnesses, Mayor Leeper found Frank Baker guilty of furnishing liquor to minors and fined him $75. When Baker was unable to pay he was sent to the county jail to serve out his fine.
