Dozens of dragon boaters armed with about 65 pounds of pasta, 10 gallons of sauce, 75 pounds of salad and 15 loaves of bread can whip up a mean meal.
That's the plan when the MOV'n Dragons host their second annual Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Betsey Mills Club gym in Marietta.
Tickets cost $7 each and $4 for children under 5 and are available from team members and at the door.
In addition to the hearty fare already mentioned, the dinner will include a selection of pies, cookies, cakes and beverages and a vegetarian sauce option. Dinners also will be available to go.
Last year's silent auction featured more than 60 items, including a weekend cabin retreat near Canaan Valley Ski Resort, a variety of artwork, handcrafted jewelry, gift baskets and more. Similar selections will be offered this year, and bidding will close at 7 p.m.
"The 50-plus members of the MOV'n Dragons make for many hands to ensure an event like this a great success," said Cathy Rees, who heads up pasta dinner planning. "We had wonderful support from the community last year, and I know this year's dinner will be an even bigger success. From competition to fellowship, the enthusiasm of this team shines in everything it does."
A portion of the proceeds from this year's fundraiser will benefit the team's new Thrivers Fund. The fund will cover the cost of fitness classes, oncology massages and similar wellness endeavors for community members who have experienced breast or other types of cancer.
The MOV'n Dragons are the Mid-Ohio Valley's dragon boat team. The group includes cancer survivors and supporters, people of all ages, genders and fitness levels. More information is available at www.movndragons.org.
