Lloyd Buell Roth

Lloyd Buell Roth, of Muskingum Drive, Marietta, was born in Woodsfield, on Aug. 11, 1916. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 2, 2013, at Heartland of Marietta.

Lloyd was the son of Guy and Arlie (Drum) Roth. He attended Ohio University and graduated as a civil engineer in 1938. He was in the Army, attaining the rank of captain during World War II, spending four years working state side in engineering. He was employed by Washington County ODOT his entire working career from 1938 until 1978. Lloyd has been a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Marietta since 1938. During his years there he filled many positions and attended faithfully until his illness prevented that the last few months.

Lloyd was a member of the Marietta Planning Committee for more than 30 years. He was a Freemason and a member of American Union Lodge No. 1. He was the only member there to attain a 70-year membership. He completed all degrees and served as chaplin from 1954 to 1982 and again from 1984 to 1997, was District Deputy Grand Master of the 17th Masonic District of Ohio from 1970 to 1972. He also served as Lodge 1 Grand Master twice during a 50-year period.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret; and daughter, Janet. He was also preceded by three brothers, Paul, Ralph and Virgil Roth; and great-grandson, Matthew Shepard.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta, and son-in-law, David Becker of Dillon, Colo.; four stepsons, Billy (Tanya) Graham of Talala, Okla., Melvin (Deloris) Graham, Stockport, Ohio, Randy (Sina) Graham, Navarre, Ohio and Chuck (Tina) Graham of Baker, Mont.; two stepdaughters, Lois (Dave) Scott, Mineral Wells, W.Va., and Susie Ford of Cairo, W.Va.; two brothers, Leland (Norma) Roth of Columbus, Ohio, and Kenneth (Martha) Roth of Woodsfield, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Audrey Roth of Doylestown, Ohio. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Lloyd loved sharing his knowledge, life experiences and wisdom with those who were blessed to have known him. He will be remembered and missed by many.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (March 6, 2013) at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., with the Rev. Don Archer and the Rev. Karl Kumpf officiating. Burial to follow with full military honors in East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with a masonic service held at 8 p.m.
