WILLIAMSTOWN - Agents with the Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force, Wood County Sheriff's Office and Williamstown Police Department arrested two Marietta residents Tuesday on a drug charge, officials said.
Jessica D. Handshumacher, 25, of 1225 County House Lane, Marietta, and her husband Alex Handshumacher, 34, of 10 Browns Road, Marietta, were arrested at 2:30 p.m. following surveillance operations in Williams-town, police said.
The Handshumachers were charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin. Jessica also was charged with being a fugitive from justice.
Agents recognized Jessica Handshumacher as being a fugitive from justice out of Washington County and followed the couple to an address in Williamstown where she parked her vehicle, officials said. Agents approached the vehicle and formally identified the woman, placing her into custody, police said.
A K-9 unit was used to conduct a sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in an indication of drugs. A search of the vehicle by task force agents revealed suspected heroin and more than $1,600 in cash, officials said.
If convicted of the felony heroin charge, the two could face one to 15 years in prison, officials said.
Jessica Handshumacher faces extradition to Ohio on the fugitive charge, police said. They were placed in the Wood County Holding Center to await arraignment.
