Lillian Turner

Lillian Smith Turner, 94, of Newport, widow of Rolla E. Turner, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday (March 24, 2013) at her residence.

Born on Dec. 20, 1918, in Newport, she was a daughter of the late C. Perry and Angeline Edwards Smith. She was a 1937 graduate of Newport High School, homemaker and former deputy registrar. Lillian was a lifetime member of Newport Baptist Church Sunday School and Mission Circle, where she was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was also a member of Newport Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, Newport Mothers Club, and was an avid sewer and quilter.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara (George) Hutchison, Newport; three sons, Bill (Linda), John, and Tim (Sue) Turner, all of Newport; and a granddaughter who was raised in her home, Linda (Roger) Leasure; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, and two brothers.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday (March 27, 2013) at Newport Baptist Church, Newport, with Pastor Doug Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Newport Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
