DUNCAN FALLS - Even though Marietta High went hitless, host Philo had to rally to defeat the Tigers, 2-1, in eight innings in a season opening baseball game Saturday.
MHS benefitted from 10 walks in the contest, but also stranded 12 baserunners.
The Tigers' only run came in the top of the first on a bases loaded walk to Ben Barnas, who was credited with an RBI.
The Electrics, who had only five hits in the game, tied the score at one-all in the fifth on an unearned run, and then claimed the victory in the eighth on Waylon Smith's one-out sacrifice fly.
Marietta southpaw Evan Sawyer started on the hill, and got a no decision, striking out five, walking one, and allowing three hits in six innings of work. He gave up an unearned run in the fifth on a bases loaded fielder's choice.
Barnas suffered the mound setback in relief, fanning one and walking one in 1.2 frames.
