John P. Vickroy, 100

John P. Vickroy, 100, of Malta, passed away Wednesday (April 3, 2013) at the Highland Oaks Health Center in McConnelsville. Born Aug. 16, 1912, in Homer Twp. Morgan County, the son of the late Thomas H. and Agnus Chappelear Vickroy.

He was the husband of the late Mildred Adams Vickroy who he married on Dec. 24, 1938. He graduated from Glouster High School in 1930 and attended Ohio University. He was a farmer and retired from the Federal Chemical Co. in Columbus and the Morgan County Board of Elections. He served on the Homer-Union School Board and the Morgan County Board of Education, served as President of the Bishopville Water District, chairman of Morgan County Central Committee, and he was a Union Twp. Central Committeeman. He was a member of the Pisgah West United Methodist Church, Gideon International, a member of the Valley Masonic Lodge #145, twelve time past master of the Bishopville Masonic Lodge #470, Valley Scottish Rite of Cambridge, the Aladdin Shrine Temple of Columbus, Morgan County Shrine Club, Rotary International, the Malta Grange, and the Morgan County Farm Bureau. John loved his family and enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Tom) Williams of Glouster; one grandson, Steve (Valerie) Williams; two granddaughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Brink and Jamie Sines; three great-granddaughters, Kaylee Brink, Mackenzie Brink, and Chloe Sines.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, J.T. and David Vickroy; two brothers, Sam and Frank Vickroy; six sisters, Mildred Davis, May Davis, Mary Reeser, Bertha Vickroy, Lucy Leeper, and Helen Vandegriff.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday (April 6, 2013) at the Bishopville Church of Christ with Pastor Phil Thomas officiating. Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and also on Saturday one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Pisgah West United Methodist Church, 3399 S.
