The Memorial Health System has partnered with the Ohio Hospital Association along with the Donate Life Ohio's Green Chair campaign to increase awareness of the benefits of organ and tissue donation.
April is Donate Life Month and on Thursday, April 11 Marietta Memorial Hospital will host a registration event and a visit from the green chair. The goal is to not only boost local awareness of organ donation but also to increase organ donor registration. According to Lifeline of Ohio, more than 95 percent of adult Americans approve of organ donation but only 54 percent of Ohioans are registered donors. Just one person making the decision to become a registered organ donor can potentially save the lives of 50 others.
The slogan of the Green Chair campaign is "Don't let another chair go empty". This chair serves as an open invitation for anyone whose life has been affected by organ donation to share their story.
Donate Life Ohio's Green Chair will be on site in front of Marietta Memorial Hospital's cafeteria on Thursday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.. The hospital wishes to invite anyone whose life has been impacted by organ donation to sit in the chair and tell their during that time.
In addition, registration forms will be available to those who wish to register, along with more information regarding organ donation. If you are unable to attend this event but would like to become a registered organ donor, you may visit www.donatelifeohio.org or your local BMV to register.
