The way the state of Ohio funds education is an unfair and broken system. It has been broken for quite a while and has finally become visible to the average public person who may not have necessarily paid attention in the past. The result of this broken system is evident because so many school districts all over the state, not just ours, are going broke. The Caldwell Schools district leaders have been working very hard to get the word out, to anyone who will listen, about just how it has happened.
The state of Ohio's current funding system is in direct violation of an Ohio Supreme Court order that says the state must fund schools equitably and adequately to eliminate the over-reliance on local property tax. I like that part, eliminate the over-reliance on local property tax. It is our job to hold the state accountable because they have not been able to do this.
Until this broken system gets fixed, if we want our school district to survive the crisis, we have no choice but to take care of our own. The only way to do this is to vote for the school levy.
We have an amazing staff that is doing a wonderful job educating our children. We have educational opportunity at our high school that even our local career and technology centers do not offer. Without the levy money, there will be more cuts. Our kids do not deserve that. They should be too busy learning instead of wondering if they will even have a class to go to next year.
With our new leadership and the levy money, our kids could focus on learning and we could confidently look towards the future and know that we have done our best. Come to Caldwell, we may be small, but we are mighty. We have the history to prove it. It's a great district in which to learn!
Please vote yes, for our school levy.
