Huge water main break

May 24, 2013
The Marietta Times

Clockwise from left, Marietta City water tech Marcus Groves and laborer Shawn Zimmerman watch as laborer Garrett Hosainson and water tech Dan Whittle dig around a 12-inch water main that ruptured between 7:40 and 7:45 a.m. Thursday behind a private drive at Seventh and Montgomery streets in Marietta. A home owned by Glen Hale was damaged as water flowed through it and down the drive. Marietta safety-service director Jonathan Hupp said the city will have to cover the damages, for which an estimate was not immediately available. Age may have caused the break, said city water distribution foreman Randy McKenzie, who estimated the cast-iron line could be 75 to 100 years old. .
