The Friends of the Lower Muskingum is seeking volunteers to help with the Ohio River Sweep from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The main cleanup site accessible by foot is Devol Run Preserve, located on Ash Road on the west side of the Muskingum River, just below Devols Dam. Those who have a canoe or kayak can be picked up by the Marietta Adventure Company at several pickup locations and taken to cleanup sites better accessed from the water. MOVP to open
The Mid-Ohio Valley Players will present "Leaving Iowa," a comedy by Tim Clue and Spike Manton at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and on June 21, 22, 28 and 29 and at 3 p.m. June 23 at the theater, 229 Putnam St., Marietta.
Local stop for DAV service program
The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Mobile Service program will be at DAV Chapter #52, 835 DAV Road, Whipple, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18. The program brings free services to help veterans with their benefits, including counseling and claim filing assistance. DAV membership is not required. Those attending should bring their claim number, Social Security number and any other pertinent documentation.

Saturday at Post 750
American Legion Post 750 will hold a steak or chicken breast fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The cost for the steak dinner is $10. The cost for the chicken dinner is $7 and the cost for a no-meat meal is $5. All meals come with a baked potato, salad and bread. Sixth-graders will be selling dessert.
Zoo visit Thursday at Barlow library
The Friends of the Barlow Library is sponsoring two programs presented by the Good Zoo at Oglebay on Thursday. "Meal or No Meal," at 2 p.m. will examine animal teeth, body structure and habitats. "Animal Training" allows students to participate in activities zoo keepers use to learn to train animals. Events are free but registration is recommended by calling 678-0103.
