Jessie Barnett

July 1, 2013
The Marietta Times

On June 28, 2013, Jessie (Mossinger) Barnett of Coshocton and New Matamoras, after 93 years here on earth, took the hand of Jesus and followed him to the Promised Land.

She was born on May 17, 1920, at Leith, Ohio, to parents Daniel and Clara (Yost) Mossinger. Jessie graduated in 1938 from New Matamoras High School. A year later, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Dale Barnett, on June 4, 1939. Jessie and Kenny were the first couple to be married at the Center Valley Church, where she has been a member since 1930. After their marriage, Jessie and Kenny took up residence on the family farm in Leith, where they raised their three children, Wayne, Judy and Ken.

Jessie was very involved in her children's lives. She was a Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher, den leader (Boy Scouts), 4-H Advisor, Big Sister, missionary worker, and later a foster grandparent. Leaving the farm in 1958, they moved to Killbuck, Ohio.

After raising their children, Jessie went to cosmetology school. Upon graduation, she became an instructor at the school and later owned her own salons, Jessica's Beauty Salon in Mt. Morris and Flint Michigan. In 1972, Jessie and Kenny moved back to the farm after Kenny retired from Buckeye Pipeline, Co. Jessie loved to be with people, especially her family. She also liked to read, cook, paint, study her family genealogy, sew, and made many quilts for her family, and she was never too busy to help others.

She loved to travel, visiting most of the United States and toured many countries with family members. Above all else, she was a Christian, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was greeted in Heaven by parents, Daniel and Clara Mossinger, husband Kenneth Dale Barnett; son, Kenneth Dale Barnett II; brothers, Glenn and Lewis Mossinger; sister, Ruth Haught; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Barnett. She truly will be missed by her son, Wayne (Jonetta) Barnett of Linden, Tenn.; daughter, Judith (Charles) Harris of Coshocton, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Robert Harris, Wayne Barnett Jr., DeAnn Harper, Susan McNett, Diann Thomas, Karen Brooks, Kenneth Barnett III, Daniel Barnett, Michael Barnett and Kailee Harris. She has 25 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren and special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday (July 2) at Hadley Funeral Home, New Matamoras, from 5 to 8 p.m., with visitation also one hour prior to the service at Center Valley. A celebration of Jessie's life will be held at Center Valley Baptist Church on Wednesday (July 3) at 11 a.m., with Pastor Craig Holler officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Mausoleum in Marietta.

Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, they simply mean we'll miss you until we meet again.
