Richard (Dick) Bentz passed away on July 16, 2013, at his home in Marietta surrounded by his family. He was born on Oct. 16, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio to Ernest and Edna Hoare Bentz.
Dick grew up in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from South Columbus High School in 1952 where he was on the varsity baseball team. After high school, he attended The Ohio State University and Bliss College where he received a degree in business administration. He joined the Army in 1955 and served for two years. He was honorably discharged in 1957, achieving the rank of Corporal. He began work for Westinghouse Corporation in Columbus and retired from Dravo Corporation in Marietta.
Dick married Elizabeth Roback July 29, 1967, in Columbus. They were happily married for 45 years.
Dick enjoyed fishing, golfing, and vacationing at the beach with family. He was an avid Ohio State football fan, a World War II Historian, and was a lover of animals, especially his dog, Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dick is survived by his wife, Libby; his daughter, Julie (George) Schaefer from Cincinnati, Ohio; his son, Doug from Charleston, W.Va.; and grandchildren, Claudia, Adam, Lilly, George, and Madeline.
A private grave side memorial service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park Chapel with Military Services.
