Allen Thomas ‘Tom’ Weinstock

Allen Thomas "Tom" Weinstock, 92, of Marietta, died Friday (July 12, 2013) in The Woodlands, Texas.

He was born to the late Thurman and Naomi Weinstock, Oct. 27, 1920, in Winnetka Illinois. Tom graduated from New Trier HS and attended Iowa State University before enlisting in the US Army in 1942. He married the late Ruth Violet (Dobbertin) Weinstock in 1942. They lived together until her death in 1999.

After his discharge from the Army in 1945, he worked for United Airlines in Chicago Ill. The family moved to the Marietta area in 1956, where Tom worked as an independent producer of oil wells near Boaz W.Va. In 1965, Tom opened Weinstock Welding & Repair Service, at 233 Ohio St. in Marietta, a business he owned and operated by himself for 40 years. After suffering a heart attack at age 85, Tom closed the business in 2005. He moved to The Woodlands, Texas in 2008, where he lived for the last five years.

Tom was an active member of the Marietta community for many years, serving leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America Organization, the Little League Baseball Program and MHS Band Boosters. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, The American Legion, BPOE and The Mason's.

Tom is survived by two children, Tom R. Weinstock (Inma) of Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, and Charlie Weinstock (Nancy) of The Woodlands, Texas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized at this time. In lieu of flowers or donations, Tom requested that we simply "do a good deed" for someone.
