Church services for families in the park
The Celebration Center of Marietta is inviting families to church services in the park and to a back-to-school "Gospel on the GO Party" Aug. 18 at the gazebo in East Muskingum Park on Front Street. Church services start at 10 a.m. The party will begin at 1 p.m. The church is giving away four $50 gift cards and 12 backpacks to returning school students. The first 144 children to register in the drawing will receive a free bag of school supplies. The event will also include two large inflatables as well as the church's own barrel train.
Forestry program for children ages 6 to 15
The Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge will hold a "Tree-mendous Adventure" for children ages 6-15 at 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Visitor Center located at 3982 Waverly Road in Williamstown. The program will include a hike through the forest in addition to activities about forestry, tree aging and leaf identification. Closed toed shoes and bug spray are recommended. The program is free and approximately two hours long. Reserve a spot by calling 304-375-2923, Ext. 115. Parents or guardians are required to be present. In the event of inclement weather, call or check the refuge's Facebook page to find out if the program is canceled.
Road closure in Warren Township
Bender Road (Warren Township 279) will be closed intermittently approximately one mile south of Ohio 550 from Monday to Friday for slip repair.
Frontier Board of Ed. meeting planned
The regular August Frontier Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday in the Frontier High School library.
Rummage sale at St. Luke's Church
A rummage sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 17 in the back parking lot of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 320 Second St., Marietta. There will be household items, furniture, clothing and books and games.
Winemaking event at Barlow Library
The Barlow Library will host a program on "Wine Tree Vineyards" at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The program will include a discussion on how Craig and Candice Brandy turned their hobby of winemaking into a business. The event is free and open to the public. Sign-up is requested by calling 678-0103.
