NEW MATAMORAS - The Frontier Local Board of Education approved a principal for the high school, a dean of students for Lawrence Elementary and extended the contract of the district treasurer during its meeting Monday.
Superintendent Bruce Kidder had previously said Bill Creighton, who served as both the Lawrence Elementary principal and the assistant principal at Frontier High and Middle School, would take over as principal at the high school this year following the non-renewal of Principal Jack Mental's contract in a cost-cutting move. The board formalized that appointment with a 5-0 vote during Monday's meeting in the high school library.
Kidder said Creighton's annual salary of $58,278 will be increased as a result of the additional responsibility, but the amount is still being determined. The new rate of pay is expected to be an item on the September board agenda.
With Creighton no longer splitting time at Lawrence, Kidder will take on some of the principal duties there. In addition, the board unanimously approved a supplemental contract of $1,500 for Erin Curtis, a teacher who does Title I intervention throughout the district's elementary schools and teaches some physical education classes, to serve as dean of students at Lawrence this year.
The dean of students "handles problems when I'm not there," Kidder said. "If something has to happen, he's there every day in the afternoon."
Kidder noted Curtis has a principal's license.

The board also unanimously approved a new five-year contract for Treasurer Frank Antill, starting after his current one expires on July 31, 2014, and continuing through July 31, 2019, at his current annual salary of $58,786. Antill was hired by the district in January 2003.
"I'm glad he's going to stay here for five more years," Kidder said.
