Marietta High School was the Division I first-place winner at the eighth annual Ohio State Fair Cheerleading Contest. Cheerleaders from high schools all over Ohio competed in the competition.
Williamstown residents will pay 50 cents more per month to have their trash picked up every week after the city council renewed an agreement with the company that previously held the city contract. Washington County Disposal CO. Inc. of Williamstown was awarded the three-year contract.

Marietta's new harbor is one reason owners of the adjacent Historic Harmar Railroad Bridge have decided to keep the 19th-century structure open after vandalism nearly forced its closure two months ago. 24-hour security at the marina will allow the walkway between the city's east and west sides to stay open. About $500 in damages has been done since the beginning of summer.
Preregistration was held in Civitan Park for girls looking to become Girl Scouts. It was a day of games and workshops for around 150 girls.
