Velma Lee Miller, 92, of Marietta, passed away Thursday (Aug. 29, 2013) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1920, in Rosedale, W.Va., to the late Dallas and Euna Doweny Gumm. Velma was a lifelong member of Lawrence Baptist Church and served with the Missionary Society. She worked as a cook for Lawrence School.
Velma is survived by her daughter Sandra Riggs (Dwight), sons Gary A. Miller (Janice) and Douglas R. Miller (Sharon), grandchildren Melissa Smith (Brad), Michael Riggs, Kimberly DuPue (Mike), all of Marietta, and Tracey Dawn Bitonte (Rich) of Pickerington, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Gary Michael DuPue, Alexandria Michelle DePue, Joseph Scott Bitonte, Olivia Nicole Bitonte and Marlana Jo Smith, and a sister Delta Staton of FL, a special nephew Kenneth Gumm and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Gordon Miller (3/17/1998); a brother, Durward Gumm; and sisters, Lena Carpenter Banasik and Nancy Trembly Miller.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., with Pastor Gene Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
