MHS Class of 1952 plans picnic Sept. 25
The Marietta High School Class of 1952 will have a picnic at 11 a.m. Sept. 25 at the home of Paul Miller, 3128 Federal Road, Little Hocking. Classmates and friends are welcome and are asked to bring tableware and a covered dish.
Morning bird walk at local wildlife refuge
A morning bird walk will be held at the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The walk will begin at the refuge visitor center, located at 3982 Waverly Road in Williamstown.The program is for all levels of birders, from beginners to advanced. Learn how to identify a mix of both migratory and resident birds. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be rescheduled.

Library will offer ancient Egyptian arts, crafts program
The Marietta location of the Washington County Public Library will offer an Ancient Egyptian Arts & Crafts program for those ages 8 to 12 at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Registration is required and limited to 20. To register, stop by the Youth Services department or call 373-1057, Ext. 219.
Annual Octoberfest Oct. 5, 6 in Lowell
The 38th annual Octoberfest will be held Oct. 5-6 on Buell Island in Lowell. There will be live entertainment, a flea market, crafts, parade and food. There is free admission and parking. For information on the flea market or crafts, call 896-3266. For information on the parade, call 896-2831.
Fearing VFD plans September dinner
The Fearing Township Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual September Dinner on Saturday at the fire station, 1975 Stanleyville Road, Whipple. Serving starts at 4 p.m. There will be a serving choice of pork chops or chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, noodles, green beans, and a choice of pie or cake.
Water office will be closed for training
The City of Marietta's water office will be closing on Tuesday and Wednesday at 1 p.m. for training. The office will also be closed on Thursday until noon for training. Normal business hours will apply both Monday and Friday.
