A young boy who wandered away from his Belpre home Tuesday afternoon was later found safe in the nearby woods.
Kaden Whealdon, 4, had been playing the backyard with his family and Great Dane when the boy and the dog wandered into the woods shortly after noon.
The hour-and-a-half disappearance prompted a search by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, said Chief Deputy Mark Warden.
"We set up a perimeter and the blood hound was en route," he said.
The office also used the Rapid Notify system to send messages to area phones, alerting them to the boy's disappearance and asking those near the child's 987 Barth Road home to be on the lookout for him.
Ultimately the boy's friends and family members found him unharmed in the woods, said Warden.
"There were several four-wheelers in the woods looking for him," he added.
Whealdon did not require medical attention and the sheriff's office issued a second set of phone notifications calling off the search.
