Free Medicare check-up Friday
A free Medicare check-up event will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Monroe County Senior Center, 118 Home Ave., Woodsfield. The program is held by the Department of Insurance and is intended to help people review Medicare changes and determine coverage for 2014.
Shop at MMH closed for remodeling
The League Shop at Marietta Memorial Hospital is temporarily closed as of today for a remodeling project.
Mountain bike group has youth event
The River Valley Mountain Bike Association will host young riders, ages 4 to 16, for a free youth mountain biking event Saturday.
All children are welcome with a parent/guardian and a bike and helmet. The club provides a bike safety check, followed by instruction and guided short trail rides, and it all wraps up with pizza and a give-away of prizes including a mountain bike. Mountain biking experience is not necessary. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. and the start time is 10.
The meeting place is Kris Mar Woods, near the back of Tractor Supply at the Frontier Shopping Center in Marietta. Parents/guardians are welcome to ride also.
Williamstown girls soccer benefit meal
The first Williamstown High School girl's soccer team is hosting a spaghetti night from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at the American Legion Post 159, 100 Central Ave., Williamstown. There will be spaghetti, refreshments, desserts, a raffle and a 50/50 drawing.
ReSTORE Marietta's annual Moonlight & Chocolate Walk will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday in downtown Marietta. Chocolate Walk tickets are $15 per individual and $25 per couple. Check-in is at the Lafayette Hotel where participants will pick up a map and bag, and browse the selection of raffle items. Buy raffle tickets at the beginning of the walk or at the end for $1 per ticket or six tickets for $5 or 12 tickets for $10. The raffle will be held at 9 p.m. in the main lobby of the Lafayette Hotel. About 25 merchants are participating in the event.
