The Washington County Commissioners are planning to review the county's purchase procedure policy passed in 2010.
The county requires two quotes from Washington County vendors (if possible) for any purchase or combination of more than $100.
Commissioner Ron Feathers said, during their weekly business meeting Thursday, a vendor asked him about a clarification of that policy when it comes to service calls and repair work and wanted to start a discussion on the issue.
One of the scenarios discussed was having an air conditioning repair technician on site to diagnose a problem and suddenly it becomes more than $100. The department or agency with the air conditioning problem must get a second bid for the repairs.
"One hundred dollars is nothing," Commission President David White said. "Most places will charge that for a service call."
White said it then becomes more expensive because a second service call is involved.

An open house for the Emergency Operations Center will take place at 2 p.m. Oct. 24 in Suite C, 204 Davis Ave. (the opposite end from the new Washington County Board of Elections site).
"That number is unreasonable for a service call," Feathers said. "Plus the agency is shut down."
County Administrator Paul Cunningham supported the idea of getting hourly rates from the vendors the county normally deals with to help in the decision-making process.
"We've been very frugal with the taxpayers' money," Cunningham said. "A vendor shouldn't be upset to give a bid."

The commissioners received a letter of recommendation from architect David Haught certifying the Gillard Construction bid of $357,000 for the new Rabbit and Poultry Barn at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Gillard's estimate came in at $11,250 less than the architect's original estimate of $368,250.
Brian Simpers, Pioneer Pipe safety manager, and Vickie Kelly, nurse with the Marietta City Health Department, were appointed to serve on the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
Commissioners have decided to drop the county's requirement to register contractors with a $35 fee.
