Former Mariettan Robert Schornstheimer, the pilot who safely landed the crippled Aloha Airlines jet in April, will speak to the Marietta Rotary Club. The plane's first officer was flying the Boeing 737 when an 18-foot section of fuselage ripped off at 24,000 feet over the Hawaiian islands, and Schornstheimer took control of the plane.

The civilian labor force of Washington County is estimated at 18,950. Unemployment is estimated at 750, including 200 women. Nearly three-tenths of those employed in Washington County hold manufacturing jobs, while one-tenth are engaged in farming.

George Wheeler Hinman, former owner and editor of the Chicago "Inter-Ocean," was inaugurated seventh president of Marietta College. A procession was formed on campus and accompanied by marching music, moved to the First Congregational Church, for the ceremony.
