Think a zombie apocalypse is nigh impossible? Don't tell that to the hordes that will be shuffling along Maple Street in Harmar Village this Saturday.
The fifth annual Harmar Zombie Walk is planned to kick off at 5 p.m. with a special effects and makeup class offered by Black Crimson Effects Studio from Parkersburg.
Sean Humburg, 23, of Parkersburg, stumbled upon the opportunity to team up with Zelio Vogta, 32, a seasoned special effects makeup artist, when the two were extras in the locally filmed "Pro Wrestlers vs Zombies."

"There have been a lot of zombie movies made here locally so right now this is where we're based," said Humburg, a Tennessee native who has also worked on "White Zombie" and has his own non-zombie movie, "Rezistance," in the works.
Zombie wannabes can learn techniques from Vogta, who said that he is trying to steer people clear of common mistakes.
"White face, raccoon eyes and pink splotches placed here and there are the biggest don'ts," Vogta said.

The workshop will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. and for a small fee the makeup artists will create a zombie look right on the spot. Some things that will be discussed include the do's and don'ts and where to find inexpensive items to make your zombie look complete.
"You really can use anything ... glue and tissue paper if you have to," said Humburg.
While the zombie walk sounds like a frightening place to be, organizers stress that it really is family-friendly.
Jessica Blankenship, a certified events coordinator who is employed by Results Radio, came on board last year in an attempt to broaden the event.
"I was a volunteer judge last year and just thought it was really fun and offered to help make it grow," she said. "It really is about community involvement and we wanted to open it up to Mid-Ohio Valley businesses and nonprofits to be able to reach a bigger audience."
Plans to make the event - which last year drew a crowd of several hundred - even better next year include a pumpkin carving contest and possibly a guest from "The Walking Dead."
Lowell Elementary student Davey Thrasher, 11, attended the zombie walk last year as an observer but, with help from his father, plans to enter the costume contest in the zombie prince category this year.
"I'm really into zombie stuff," Thrasher said. "My dad's doing my makeup ... we went all around looking for makeup and then we found some clothes that we can just tear up."
Along with the costume contest, which provides an opportunity to win up to $200, there will also be zombie Olympics.
"It is for a team of three and they must complete four challenges," said event producer and Harmar business owner Chuck Swaney. "Think of it like zombies at the county fair."
There will also be food, music from Vinnie and the Lubricators beginning at 10 p.m., and performances from Stacey's Dance Studio, Gel's Dance Centre and the Marietta Dance Academy, which will perform its annual "Thriller" dance around 9:45 p.m.
Also this year, according to Swaney, there will be a beer garden area for which patrons who are of age can purchase tickets. Funds raised will go back into the Historic Harmar Bridge Company fund for next year's event.
