In a recent letter to the editor the writer opines that the opposition's "malcontent" (as the headline put it) with President Obama is based on his ethnicity. Well, sir, you miss the point of our discontent. To paraphrase the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "We judge Mr. Obama not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character."
The one problem I do not have with Obama is that he is black and I feel confident I speak for the vast majority of conservative citizens in this country. It matters not whether our president is white, black, purple or green (although that by implication could mean he or she is Martian, which should disqualify him or her for office). What matters is that our president honors the oath of office to protect or defend the Constitution and unfortunately our current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is doing his best to shred this document as he "fundamentally transforms America."
It is not necessary to go into detail now about the many usurpations of power this administration (in all branches and on both sides of the aisle) has and is perpetrating. It should be evident to any observant and well-informed citizen the myriad impeachable offenses the majority of them commit. If Dr. King were here today, what would he think of the insular and partisan way in which we treat one another? Surely, in your arguments against our ideology you can come up with a better defense of your position than to charge us with racism. If you study history (not the revisionist version) you'll discover that argument just doesn't work anymore.
