Francis Eugene ‘Gene’ Haines

Francis Eugene "Gene" Haines, 88, of McConnelsville, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 3, 2013) at Highland Oaks Health Center in McConnelsville with his family around him.

He was born April 21, 1925, in Marietta, to the late Emmett Haines and Hallie Williams Haines. He spent his early life on the family farm. He was engaged in many jobs, farming, trucking, coal and stone quarries, horse and tractor pulls, auctioneering and other odd jobs. Gene was a great man and was hard working. He enjoyed auctions and family get-togethers. He was always willing to help and always had a kind word to say. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in McConnelsville.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eileen McNabb Haines; a son, Edward (Sandy) Haines of Malta; two daughters, Susan (Larry) Alderman of McConnelsville and Charlotte (Ron) Ullman of Stoutsville; nine grandchildren, Chris, Melinda, Jason, Rob, Melissa, Shannon, Caitlyn, Jason and Tricia; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Gene was the last of 12 children born to the Haines.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Hazel, Sicesta, Lavada, Ethel and Mary; and six brothers, Dwight, Jim, John, Bill, Harry and Clay.

Calling hours will be Wednesday (Nov. 6, 2013) at First Presbyterian Church from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held Thursday (Nov. 7, 2013) at 1 p.m. with Pastor Barbara Morrison officiating. Gene will be laid to rest in McConnelsville Cemetery. Miller-Huck Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
