Marietta High School's "Wall of Sound" marching band placed 16th out of 54 in preliminary competition at Bands of American Grand Nationals at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan. Director Marshall Kimball says the high score reaffirms the band's reputation as one of the finest in the nation.

James F. Williams, executive vice president of the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce, says that a New York furniture plant is considering relocating at the Brickwede Brothers plant at Westview, which has been unoccupied for three years.
100 years ago
Prisoners at the Marietta city jail will now receive only two meals per day, breakfast and supper. Many prisoners would prefer to be in jail, rather than out facing the cold wind and snow, and with three big meals a day from the Wakefield Hotel, the living has been too good.
