Ohio State Sen. Lou Gentile, D-Steubenville, who was once considered one of the top contenders for the Democratic nomination for Ohio's 6th Congressional District before announcing his intent not to seek the seat, threw his support Monday behind the candidacy of former State Rep. Jennifer Garrison, of Marietta.
Gentile recently won election to Ohio Senate District 30, which includes nine of the 18 counties included in the 6th Congressional District. He previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives and as Assistant Director of the Governor's Office of Appalachia under Governor Ted Strickland.
"Jennifer Garrison and I share a commitment to fighting for working and middle class families," Gentile said. "We need someone in Washington who works cooperatively with people back home on common sense solutions for the very real problems facing our area. Jennifer Garrison is the right person at the right time for our region and I am endorsing her."
In response to receiving Gentile's endorsement, Garrison said, "I'm really grateful to receive the endorsement of Senator Gentile. He is a rising star in the Democratic Party. And, it's easy to see why. He fights for the right causes. From Ormet to the United Mineworkers, Lou Gentile is a voice for working people and we're lucky to have him as our state senator."
"I look forward to campaigning with him and working alongside him to fight for the working people of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio."
