A man and a woman allegedly found with drugs and drug abuse instruments were with a man arrested Monday night at the Lafayette Hotel on a warrant for armed robbery out of Wood County.
After nearly nine hours of surveillance outside of the hotel, officers from the Marietta Police Department arrested Russel Traugh, 31, of Parkersburg, in the room checked out in his name.
Traugh and another unidentified suspect are accused of committing an armed robbery earlier that day in a Vienna parking lot.
With Traugh in the hotel room were David C. Smith, 32, of 1703 36th St., Parkersburg, and Whitney M. Reeder, 23, of 24 Thorn St., Parkersburg.
Smith was found to be in possession of heroin, said Marietta Police Department Capt. Jeff Waite. He was charged with drug possession, a fifth-degree felony.
Reeder was charged with a second-degree misdemeanor count of possession of drug abuse instruments because she reportedly had a hypodermic needle with her.
According to a release from the Marietta Police Department, Reeder told officers that the group had come to the hotel room to get high on heroin.
Traugh, who police say also had a syringe, was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments and being a fugitive from justice. He likely faces more charges in Wood County, said Waite.
