Providing handouts can ease a person’s pain

December 4, 2013
The Marietta Times

I would like to respond to the letter of Nov. 30 titled "think twice before offering handouts." I'm sure that what the writer said was correct, but I think that any homeless persons or any down and out person or people that resort to panhandling are hurting and if we can ease that hurt even for a little while by giving them a few bucks even if they use it for booze and cigarettes, I think that is fine. I think any reasonable person would be more responsible but these people are deficient in one way or another and that is their only way of coping and like I said if it eases their hurt for even a little while it is worth a few bucks.
