Gisela Thomas, 81, of Newport, Ohio, passed away Saturday (Dec. 7, 2013) at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1931, in Tremmen, Germany to the late Wilhelm and Bertha Wenger Brenneman.
Gisela married Robert Thomas on April 1, 1951, in Berlin, Germany before coming to the U.S. in 1954. Once here, she obtained her citizenship in 1956 before traveling with her husband in the military. Robert and Gisela returned to the U.S. in 1969 and lived on the family farm in Newport, Ohio.
Gisela loved flowers and animals, and served as president on both the Marietta and Newport Garden Clubs. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Gisela was also a wonderful caregiver, providing comfort and care to the elderly when they were in need.
In addition to her husband, Robert, she is survived by her three children; Robert S. Thomas (Patty), Barbara Mills (Michael), Michael G. Thomas (Elizabeth); six grandchildren, Samuel Thomas, Johnathon Thomas, Sarah Morehead, Chrissy Tanis, Chad Mills, Arrianne Baxter; six great-grandchildren, Lily Tanis, Caleb Tanis, Esther Tanis, Jacob Morehead, Brookley Baxter and Bodi Baxter.
Services will be held at noon on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta 45750 with Pastor Steve Mahaffey officiating. Burial to follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
