On Dec. 13 I attended the holiday concert at Marietta Middle School because I wanted to hear my young friend Maddy sing her solo part in one of the choir selections. I haven't been to such an event since my own children were in school about 25 or 30 years ago, so I didn't know quite what to expect.
I was so very positively impressed with everything I saw and heard. All the young people in the band and choir groups were enthusiastic and focused to do their best, and the music teachers had prepared them well with selections that must have been fun to learn and rehearse. The students in the audience were well-behaved and respectful, and they applauded and cheered each presentation.
In addition to the music, each class recognized some fellow students who are especially caring and helpful to others. Many students had participated in class efforts to raise funds for the Strecker Cancer Center at MMH or St. Jude Children's Hospital, and the results of those campaigns were really something to hear.
Good things are happening at Marietta Middle School, and I had a great time.
