On Tuesday afternoon a crew from Ken Strahler Masonry, Inc. worked to bring down the remaining parts of the building located at Third and Marion streets in Marietta. The building has housed apartments and various businesses over the years, from school supply stores to tanning salons.
Strahler said most of the parts of the building will be recycled, like the bricks and metal, while the demolition debris will end up in a demolition debris landfill. The ground was purchased by Rev. Jeffrey M. Monforton, Bishop of Steubenville. St. Mary's Elementary School will use the grounds as green space and extra parking, Strahler said. The parcel covers 830 to 836 Third St. According to the Washington County Auditor's Office, parcels 834 to 836 were purchased for $160,000. There were no records for the other parcels.
