Winter dance benefit at VFW Jan. 26
A winter dance benefit will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. Jan. 26 at the VFW Post 5108 on Pike Street in Marietta. The cost is $7 per person or $12 per couple, with children 5 and under free. All proceeds will go toward end-of-life costs for Vietnam veteran Charles Worsham. There will be dancing, food and a silent auction with photos available. Donations are being accepted for the auction.

Conservation district tree sale ongoing
The Washington Soil and Water Conservation District annual tree sale is being held through Feb. 28. Customers can purchase deciduous trees, coniferous trees and seed packets. Some of the plants in this year's sale include native wildflower and grass seed, wildlife food plot mix, American chestnut, Black Walnut, Black Cherry, Bald Cypress, and Canadian hemlock. Christmas tree drop offs OK until Jan. 20
Marietta residents can drop off Christmas trees until Jan. 20 at the following locations:
Indian Acres Park.
Greenleaf on Ohio 821 (stop at the Muskingum Drive retail store for a dump ticket).
seminar Jan. 16
Fred Rowe, master knife craftsman and proprietor of Bethel Ridge Forge near Bartlett, will give a presentation on knife-making emphasizing Damascus knife crafting at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Cutler Community Center, 4550 Two Mile Run Road. Food will be available at the community building.
Elections staff to attend meeting
The Washington County Board of Elections will close at noon Jan. 15 and will remain closed through Jan. 17 so the staff may attend the OAEO Winter Conference.
The Board of Elections will also be closed on Jan. 20 in observance of Martin L. King Day.
