Washington County Commissioners are making a grave mistake by failing to retain Paul Cunningham county administrator.
I have known Cunningham throughout his 39-year career with the county. He is one of the most responsible people in county government I have dealt with as a journalist, community organizer and council member. He is a person who has a history of being absolutely trustworthy. Cunningham has always been a public servant you could go to for honest county financial information. The money the commissioners hope to save by cutting the position, they will lose with the loss of honest oversight, insight and dedication to the public Cunningham has exhibited throughout his career. The commissioners' loss is someone else's good fortune.
