Jerome A. "Jerry" Gerritzen, 74, of Marietta, died Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2014).
He was born Feb. 19, 1939, in Redwing, Kan., to Adolph and Mary Demel Gerritzen. Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Union Carbide. He was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption and VFW Post #5108.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Joyce Neely Gerritzen; a daughter, Wendy Carpenter (Craig) of Marietta; grandsons, Jacob and Caleb Carpenter; stepgrandsons, Eric and Josh Carpenter; three sisters; and a brother.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerome Scott Gerritzen.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 15, 2014) at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption. Visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 8 until 9:30. Burial will be in New St. Mary's Cemetery, with full military honors.
