COLUMBUS - Of the eight state wrestling qualifiers from The Marietta Times circulation, only Caldwell senior Kameron Rayner (47-4) won his Thursday opening bout at the Ohio championship preliminaries at Value City Arena, Jerome Schottenstein Center, on the campus of The Ohio State University.
Rayner, a 2013 state placer at 138 pounds last year, decisioned Delta sophomore Dustin Marteney, 4-0, in the D3 132-pound weight class.
The Caldwell grappling standout advances in the winners bracket to face Covington sophomore Ryan Ford, a 4-2 winner over Kirtland's Evan Francis.

Rayner captured Redskins' career victory No. 156 against Marteney. He is one win shy of tying older brother Kale.
Also at 132, Waterford senior Austin Lang (42-6) lost a 12-4 major decision to Willard's Major Moore.
Lang, a state qualifier last year, faced Cuyahoga Heights' Nate Frye in a consolation round and dropped a 6-2 decision.
The Ohio state wrestling tournament is a double-elimination event with top 8 in each weight class earning All-Ohio status.
Kolby Rayner, Kameron's older brother, suffered a 22-7 tech fall to Covington's Jarred Ganger.
Then, the younger Rayner (37-11) wrestled Montpelier's Sean Taylor in a consolation round, lost a 10-7 decision, and was eliminated.
At 120, Monroe Central junior Rodney Richter 34-9) was pinned in the opening period (:57) by Milan Edison's Evan Cheek.
Richter, a state qualifier last year, faced Middlefield Cardinal's Ian Mast in the consolations and pinned him to stay alive in the tourney.
Tanner Potts, a 220-pound sophomore, was flattened by Gates Mills Hawken's Alex Stotter, also in the first period (:54).
Potts (36-8) was pitted against Delta's Devon Richards in the consolations and got pinned.
Also in D3, Belpre's Jamie Barrett (35-14) suffered a 10-2 major decision setback to Jamestown Greeneview's Armani Robinson in the 182-pound bound weight division.
Barrett was paired up against Apple Creek Waynedale's Jack Staggs in the consolations, and got flattened.
In Division 2 competition on opening day at state, Warren junior heavyweight Brandon Pahl (48-7) was pinned by defending champion and undefeated Billy Miller (41-0) of Perry at the 1:46 mark.
Pahl came back, though, and decisioned Newark Licking Valley's Jaqui Vanmeter 7-1 in overtime in a 285-pound consolation bout.
At 126, Morgan's Hayden Matheney (36-10) suffered a 17-1 tech fall to St. Paris Graham Local's Eli Seipel.
Matheney, a state alternate last year, then wrestled Brooklyn's Dominic Meehan in the consolations, and lost a close 6-5 decision.
