James H. Duty, 68, of Marietta, passed away Thursday (March 6, 2014) at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Jim was born Friday, Dec. 14, 1945 in Marietta to the late Howard Robie and Gladys Martin Duty.
Jim retired from the City of Marietta as the Waste Water Superintendent. He attended the First Baptist Church and later Fairview Heights Chapel Church in Marietta. He was a member of American Union Lodge #1 F. & A.M., White Shrine of Jerusalem #12, the Ohio River Sternwheel Committee as well as the Colony Theater Restoration Committee.
He is survived by his daughters, Miranda Duty (Scott Baldwin) of Marietta., Malinda Badgley (Paul) of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Emerald Anne, Christian David and Macy Jade Kendall, Emily Ann Baldwin all of Marietta, and Austin James Badgley of Columbus, Ohio; nephews, Kenneth Lamp (Jenny) of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Richard Lamp of Barberton, Ohio. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Pamela Jane Ayers Duty (5/3/2001); son, Howard Robert Duty (5/1975); and sisters, Donna Duty Lamp and Marjorie Duty.
Services will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Hadley Funeral Home 1021 Pike St., Marietta, with burial to follow in Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with Masonic Services at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Chase Bank, 10 Acme St., Marietta, in Jim's name to help with his dream of a handicap ramp in the cul-de-sac downtown for the Sternwheel Festival.
