Garnet Leeson Howdyshell, 93, of Marietta, died at 7:50 a.m. on Sunday (March 16, 2014) in Greensboro, N.C.
She was born Nov. 23, 1920, in Belpre, Ohio, to Alta and Evert Leeson. Graduating from Belpre High School in June 1938, she married Charles R. Howdyshell on Sept. 10, 1941.
A member of Christ United Methodist Church, she served on the Women's Society, Susanna Circle, and with the Marietta/Parkersburg Walk to Emmaus. Garnet was a member of the Girls Council of The Betsey Mills Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. Owner and operator of Merle Norman Studios in Marietta, Ohio, she retired in 2001 and moved to Greensboro. Continuing her vocational life, she managed The Abbey Residents Shop at Abbotswood Independent Living for 9 years in addition to serving on the Residence Council.
One daughter, Pamila K. West, a son-in-law, Lane B. West, a granddaughter, Allison G. Mitchell, and two great-grandsons, Grayson and Everett Mitchell, survives her. Her extended surviving family includes, two stepgrandsons, Brad and Carl West, two stepgreat-granddaughters, Laura and Katelyn West. There are many remaining Howdyshell nieces and nephews, along with Leeson family relatives.
No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service at Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta, will be on April 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. There will be a private family burial service.
