Household Hazardous Waste Day April 5
The good news is that there will be a 2014 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day and it will be at Solvay Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5. This year the Southeast Ohio Joint Solid Waste District is primarily responsible planning the event and this scheduling information was obtained from their website www.wasteabate.org. Other special collection events as well as those for adjacent counties are also available on this website.
The Washington County HHWCD began at community Earth Day Planning meetings in 1990. The Responsible Care group of local chemical companies funded the expensive event for several years. Recently the Solid Waste District has also supplied funding.
This is our opportunity to make sure that pesticides, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, old medicines, oil, antifreeze, paints, cleaners, solvents - every thing you would not want to have upstream of your drinking water supply - are disposed of properly. It is important to know ahead of time so that the materials may be collected from our garages and other parts of our homes to be ready for the big day.
The event is an important one for the county and its residents, present and future, and participation is no less important now than it was in 1991. Please prepare and plan to take advantage of the day to dispose of your household hazardous wastes in an environmentally safe manner.
Clean water is too precious to gamble with.
