Valentine Larry Nunziato DePace, 90, of Coraopolis, Pa., passed away Monday (March 10, 2014) at the Broadmore Assisted Living in Bridgeville.
Born in Coraopolis Feb. 14, 1924, to the late Vittoria Romano and Saverio DePace. A graduate of Coraopolis High School, Valentine was an Army veteran during World War II and was in the D Day invasion, where he received the Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citation and the Purple Heart for injuries he received in Germany. He then was sent back to the USA to recuperate and was then discharged.
He married his first wife, Elizabeth Marie Dalfonso DePace, on May 15, 1948. Elizabeth passed away in October of 1996. He was also preceded in death by their daughter, Valentina Marie (DePace) Sehn in 2007. Valentine married Valerie Hanger DePace on Dec. 31, 1998. He was member of St. Joseph's Church, St. Malachy's Church, VFW and the American Legion. He was a graduate of Robert Morris University.
Valentine worked for the Department of the Treasury, retiring after 33 years in 1980.
Valentine is survived by his children, Paul DePace of Los Angeles and Ronald (Renee) DePace of Mission Viejo, Calif.; stepchildren, Linda Hanger, James (Theresa) Hanger and Valerie Sammet; a brother, Saverio DePace of Baden; grandchildren, Amandalee, Alyssa, Anthony, Rachel, Donald, Sean, Kyle, Trevor, Chad.
Valentine was also predeceased, his siblings, Joseph, Anthony, Nunziato, Rocky, Josephine, Delina, Yolanda and infant Inmaculata.
Services were held Friday (March 14, 2014) at Copeland Coraopolis Funeral Home, 867 Fifth Ave., Coraopolis. Mass of Christian burial was in St. Joseph with Father Rich Jones officiating. Entombment in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors followed.
