H. Clayton John, 95, of Chesterhill, died on Friday (March 21, 2014) at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1919, in Chesterhill, to the late Harvey and Gladys Linscott John. He worked for over 50 years in banking at Chesterhill First National Bank and retiring from Peoples Bank in Marietta. He then served on Peoples Bank board for many years after retirement. He was a member of Chesterhill United Methodist Church, where he was very active in the choir;Chesterhill Volunteer Fire Department; Morgan County Farm Bureau; Ohio State Fair senior choir; was a Marion township trustee and clerk for over 30 years; and was very active in the Chesterhill community.
He is survived by three sons, Robert (Susie) John of Naples, Fla., Edward (Donna) John of McConnelsville and Paul John of Chesterhill; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and was very fond of his caretakers, Anita and Amber.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Calendine John; and one grandson.
Services will be held on Tuesday (March 25, 2014) at 11 a.m. at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill with Pastor Phil Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Friends Cemetery in Chesterhill. Friends may call on the family on today (March 24) from 5 to 8 p.m.
