Chris Garnes took the lead from Butch McGill with nine laps to go and went on to claim the AMRA Super Late Model "Frostbuster 30" Friday evening at the Legendary Hilltop Speedway.
Garnes, an Evans, W.Va. native, spent most the first two-thirds of the race following McGill as the two masterfully weaved their way through lapped traffic on what seemed like every single lap of the 30 lap feature.
After a caution flag waved on lap 17 when John Brown's car experienced mechanical issues and dropped fluid on the race track, Garnes capitalized on the restart to try and take the lead away from McGill.
After Garnes dove to the bottom of the track going into turn one and slid up in front of the veteran McGill, the two put on a great show of side by side racing for the next several laps before Garnes finally made the pass and took over the lead with just nine laps remaining.
While the two were racing for the lead, Winchester Ohio native Nick Latham threatened to make it a three car battle as he passed McGill for second with five laps to go.
Garnes had to dodge several close calls with lapped cars over the final few laps as he claimed the victory and the $2000 top prize.

Rounding out the top five were Latham, McGill, Corey Conley and Tim Dohm.
Last week's feature winner Freddie Carpenter had a short evening as he was a victim in a first lap crash that let his car too damaged to continue.
In the AMRA modified feature, St. Mary's Tom Sigler started on the pole and led all 20 laps to claim his first feature win of the young season.
Sigler was chased for much of the feature by Gallipolis native Travis Dickson, the son of Marietta High School graduate Mark Dickson, but easily pulled away to notch the win.
Sigler dodged a bullet with only a handful of laps to go when Josh Donkin spun directly in front of the leader who narrowly missed making contact.
Dickson came home second, while last week's feature winner Kenny Johnson edged out Nick Corbitt by inches at the line while Marc Martin finished fifth.
Hilltop will once again run a full slate of racing next Friday night.
