Reports of fraudulent practices by Washington County welfare recipients are being investigated. Welfare director Genevieve Nuckles said there have been complaints of goods not listed on relief orders, such as gasoline instead of groceries, being sold to recipients.
100 years ago
Charles Nelson, 19, was arrested in Marietta on the charge of carrying concealed weapons. An employee of the chair factory, Nelson tried to shoot up the town and terrorized a couple of families residing under the bridge at the rear of the street car waiting room.
