DAVISVILLE, W.Va. - Payton Sturm hurled four innings of one-hit ball and Jake Ullman knocked in three runs as host Parkersburg Catholic cruised past Tyler Consolidated, 12-0, in five innings here Wednesday at Marshall Field.
Tyler Consolidated, which was playing without three regulars and dropped to 3-4 on the campaign with a home twinbill set for 1 p.m. today versus St. Marys, got its lone hit when Kole Starkey singled with two outs in the second.
Sturm also issued a two-out walk in the first to Nathan Heintzman and a free pass with one out in the third to Evan Davis. Sturm, who got a diving catch from Nick Roedersheimer in center to rob Heintzman of a hit in the fourth, finished with six punchouts against the two walks. Cary Casto worked a 1-2-3 fifth and fanned two to finish off the Crusader win.

Silver Knight losing pitcher Jordan Baker, who went 3 1-3 innings with six walks and five strikeouts, was touched up for three runs in the first and two unearned runs in the second. Jake Boice's one-out single in the first got things rolling for the hosts, who watched Ullman follow with a walk. Sturm then helped his own cause with a two-run single to center and Andrew Cinalli added a run-scoring knock.
PCHS leadoff hitter Austin Luther drew a one-out base on balls in the second, Boice reached on an error and Ullman made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly. Another TCHS miscue in the field off a batted ball by Kyle Bronski made it 5-0.
In the third, No. 8 hitter Andrew Garvin tried to stretch an easy stand-up double into a three-bagger, but the Crusader was gunned down at third for the first out of the inning. That happened when left fielder John Nicklaus hit cutoff man Evan Davis and the shortstop fired to Dillon Glover, who applied the tag.

With two outs in the third, Austin Luther sped down the line and reached on an infield single. Boice followed with an infield single and Ullman ripped a two-run double down the line in left.
The 5-1 Crusaders, who play at 6 p.m. Friday at Charleston Catholic, put the game away with a five-run fourth. Roedersheimer and Luther had RBI base on balls and Evan Dexter delivered a two-run single to center.
