Duane E. "Babe" Funk, 82, of Beverly, died Friday (April 18, 2014) at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born March 16, 1932 in Cutler, Ohio, son of Elijah Page and Stella Marie Carr Funk.
He retired from AEP Muskingum River Plant after 31 years of service. He graduated from Marion High School in Chesterhill in 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was stationed on the William Seiverling Destroyer. He was a member of the American Legion Post #389 at Beverly. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. He was also a woodworker and prided himself in the furniture that he made.
He was married in 1955 to Jean Duskey Funk who survives. He is also survived by a son, Timothy Funk and wife Judy of Beverly; a daughter, Cynthia Funk of Beverly; two grandsons, Levi Funk of Zanesville and Elijah Funk of Columbus; and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard Rex Funk who died in WWII and Leroy Funk.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery with Military services at the grave.
