A 200-voice chorus and 120-piece band will perform at the 19th Washington County Music Festival at Ban Johnson Field House. Local conductors will lead the groups who represent the best musicians from Fort Frye, Lower Salem, Newport, Warren, and Waterford high schools.
The 1964 Sesquicentennial Celebration of Monroe County kicked off with the erection of a stockade and registration for the "Brothers of the Brush" contest. A surprisingly large percentage of the male population appeared anxious to avoid shaving for the next few weeks in order to participate.
