Rev. Richard "Dick" Saltzwedel, 72, of Marietta, passed away on Friday (April 25, 2014) at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born on Aug. 18, 1941 in Jamaica, N.Y. to the late Henry Edward and Katherine Schreck Saltzwedel.
Dick was a 1959 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Cambria Heights, N.Y., and a 1963 graduate of Marietta College. He married Judith D. Adams on Nov. 30, 1963 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 2011. He retired from Monongahela Power Co. after 35 years of service as an accountant supervisor. He was a minister at Little Muskingum Congregational and Second Congregational Church and was also a driver for the Marietta Memorial Hospital Bloodmobile. Dick was a Past Master and current Secretary in Masterton Lodge #429 F.&A.M., Past Excellent High Priest in American Union Chapter #1, Past Illustrious Master of Marietta Council #78 Royal and Select Masters, Past Commander and current Prelate in Marietta Commandery #50 Knights Templar, Knight of York Cross of Honor and recipient of Knight Templar Cross of Honor, Past and current Patron of Order of Eastern Star Masterton Chapter #529 and past DDGM of 18th Masonic District.
Dick is survived by four children, Tracey (Glen) Bookman, Amy (Larrey) Christopher, Ginger (Brent) Bowersock, Scott (Melissa) Saltzwedel; seven grandchildren, Leanna and Allison Christopher, Adam Bookman, Nicholas, Nathan and Noah Bowersock, Bryce Saltzwedel; one great-granddaughter, Makayla Ramsay; one sister, Janet Kane; and one sister-in-law, Trudy Clegg.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta with the Rev. Richard M. Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 27 at the funeral home, where Masonic Services will be held at 8 p.m. by Masterton Lodge #429 and Order of Eastern Star services will be held at 8:30 PM.
